South Asian Heritage Month gets set for its 5th year

South Asian Heritage Trust (SAHT) is hosting its fifth annual South Asian Heritage Month (SAHM) this year.  

SAHM is a significant event that aims to elevate the presence of British South Asian history and heritage throughout the UK. SAHT produces various events and activities this month, spanning education, arts, culture, celebration, and commemoration.

 SAHM, running yearly from July 18th to August 17th, is a time to reflect on and celebrate the rich and diverse heritage of the South Asian community in the UK.  

SAHT has four key objectives that it aims to achieve and maintain through its different events:

  • They develop and deliver educational program kits for schools, organisations and the wider public, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of South Asian heritage. 
  • SAHT also organise and showcases a variety of arts and culture events to celebrate the diversity of South Asian communities, promoting cultural exchange and unity.
  • They commemorate and highlight key historical events or figures that have contributed to the experience of South Asians in Britain today, reminding us of our shared history and the contributions of our ancestors. 
  • SAHT collaborates with numerous organisations, individuals, and institutions to elevate the reach and importance of its message, strengthening the South Asian community and its voice.  

To achieve these different objectives, SAHT hosts various events throughout the year, most of which are held during SAHM. The upcoming events are:

  • Free to be Me Anarkali dress –by Sahara in Preston\’s Women\’s group. 18th July – 17th August  
  • Adorned Narratives – Wearing Our Stories with Pride. 19th – 21st July  
  • Met Police Recruitment and Attraction Session. 19 Jul  
  • Black Country Multicultural Day. 20 Jul  
  • South Asian Heritage Month with Balham Library. 20 Jul 
  • Asian Women\’s Conference. 20 Jul  
  • A Cardiff Celebration of South Asian Heritage Month. 21 Jul 
  • South Asian for Sustainability x Ocean Generation: Deep Currents Workshop. 22 Jul  
  • Ground-breaking South Asian Judges. 22 Jul 
  • Mandala in Dots Painting – Birmingham. 25 Jul  

`The South Asian Heritage Trust\’s annual South Asian Heritage Month is a significant and impactful event that aims to elevate the presence of British South Asian history and heritage.

Through diverse events and activities, the organisation successfully achieves its objectives of education, arts and culture promotion, commemorating historical events and figures, and collaboration with various entities to strengthen the South Asian community and its voice.

The upcoming events for South Asian Heritage Month showcase a rich tapestry of cultural, educational, and celebratory activities, offering an opportunity for individuals to engage with and celebrate the vibrant South Asian community in the UK.
