A trailer for the BAFTA-nominated film, Sister Midnight has been released. The debut film from writer and director Karan Kandhari, features actress Radhika Apte, and will be released in UK and Irish cinemas on March 14th.

The plot follows a newly arranged marriage, with an \’oddball\’ couple living awkwardly in a small, shared shack in Mumbai.

It explores the challenges faced by the character Uma as she grapples with her surroundings, lack of domestic skills, and her spouse, before being drawn into the city\’s night-time world.

The film has been described as a \’droll, strange, cool freak of a film\’ by Little White Lies and a film that \’breaks free from the shackles of submissive feminine stereotypes and raucously leans into a woman behaving very, very badly\’ by Time Out.

Sister Midnight was nominated for Outstanding British Debut at this year’s BAFTA Awards, and also received nominations at the Cannes Film Festival for the Golden Camera award and in Director’s Fortnight.

The film won Best Picture in the Next Wave Award at Austin\’s Fantastic Fest.

It has also been nominated for four BIFA awards and was \’warmly received\’ at festivals worldwide.

The soundtrack includes pieces from Howling Wolf, Buddy Holly, Motorhead, T. Rex, and new music from Interpol\’s Paul Banks.

The film\’s cast includes Radhika Apte, Ashok Pathak, and Chhaya Kadam, among others.

Sister Midnight is supported by Film4, the BFI, and Film i Väst.

It will have its Irish premiere at the Dublin International Film Festival on February 21st, and the film\’s US release is planned for May.
