A community Fusion Day was organized recently by the Belfast Asian Women\’s Academy (BAWA) and St Malachy\’s Youth Centre in South Belfast to promote interaction among people of various backgrounds in a fun, shared and safe space.

The event was appreciated by many local people belonging to all ages and professions, where they got a chance to taste local and international food samples as well as performances. This included a deep dive into the history of the St Malachy\’s Gaelic Club and giving the children an opportunity to play Gaelic football. Many were also pleasantly surprised by a display of various styles of sarees by models draped in the colourful traditional South Asian outfit.

Ana Chandran, Founder and Chair of the Belfast Asian Women\’s Academy (BAWA) said, “I am delighted that we achieved our aim. Fusion Day is just not about celebrating our culture but also embracing the local culture, thus this day was named Fusion Day.”
