A restaurant has delivered more than 100 parcels of food to homeless families in Warrington.
The team at Flavers Indian Restaurant & Bar, which was formerly known as The Cottage, cooked and prepared fresh hot meals for the families, as well as residents of a nearby care home.
This initiative is part of a wider effort led by Cllr Mo Hussain, deputy mayor of Warrington, to encourage local restaurants to support the town’s homeless by providing free meals whenever possible.
Many homeless families in Warrington are placed in temporary accommodations or hotels, where kitchen facilities are either non-existent or severely limited, making it difficult for them to prepare a proper, nutritious meal.
Flavers, which is based in what is known as Cromwell House, is now under new management with ‘a strong community-focused vision’.
The team want to give back to the people of Warrington and they have now pledged to provide regular meals on a monthly basis to support the town’s most vulnerable.
Cllr Mo Hussain personally thanked the management and staff at Flavers, saying: “This is an outstanding gesture from Flavers, and I sincerely hope more restaurants and businesses come forward to support those in need.
Hot, freshly prepared meals can make a real difference in the lives of those who don’t have access to proper cooking facilities.”
Bobby, the manager at Flavers, said: “My colleagues and I are always looking for ways to support the homeless and those in need in our community. When we learned about the challenges some families are facing, we knew we had to do something.
We reached out to the deputy mayor, and we’re thankful for his support in helping us make this happen.”
The generosity was well received by the residents at Cromwell Court Care Home.
The manager there said: “The meals provided by Flavers were absolutely wonderful, and our residents were truly touched by this act of kindness. It’s heart-warming to see a local business step up in such a meaningful way.”
Temporary accommodation staff also shared their thoughts on the impact of the initiative.
They said: “We’ve never seen the room so full. Residents were chatting and engaging with each other, and it provided a real opportunity for people to connect.
One gentleman had only just arrived at 4pm and was immediately welcomed with a hot meal in comfortable surroundings.”
They added: “Families were sitting together, talking and enjoying their food – it was a wonderful example of how food can bring people together. Plates were cleared, showing just how much everyone enjoyed their meals.
The staff who delivered the food were enthusiastic and truly passionate about giving back. Not only was the food beautifully presented, but it was also appreciated by all who received it.”
