Former Tory MP officially resigns after being convicted of sexual assault

Wakefield MP Imran Ahmad Khan has officially quit the parliament after being convicted of sexually assaulting an underage boy. He has expressed his intention to quit on April 14 but completed all formalities last week, which means that he still got his salary from UK taxpayers’ money.

The former MP has now been appointed Steward and Bailiff of the Three Hundreds of Chiltern by Chancellor Rishi Sunak. He released a statement on social media mentioning his resignation and disappointment for being characterised as “a sexual predator, outcast and worse”.

After the statement was released, the Treasury made an announcement that Khan had formally stood down from his seat of North Shropshire and was taking up a new position as Steward and Bailiff of the Manor of Northstead, which is the usual route that MPs take after resigning.
