Police have named the young man tragically killed in a street attack in Bradford as 19-year-old Muhammad Junaid Khan (pictured above), as detectives continue their investigation into the fatal stabbing that has left the local community in shock.
Muhammad’s family has released a photograph of the teenager as they begin to come to terms with their devastating loss. West Yorkshire Police confirmed that eight people have now been arrested in connection with the incident, which took place in broad daylight in the Newton Street area on Friday the 6th of June.
Emergency services were called to reports of a violent altercation involving a group of men armed with knives at around 2.30pm. Muhammad was found with critical injuries and, despite the efforts of medics, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other men were also injured during the incident. One, a 27-year-old man, remains in hospital in a serious condition after sustaining a stab wound to the chest. Another, aged 24, was treated for a stab wound to the arm that was not life-threatening.
Detectives believe the fatal altercation began outside a shop on Loughrigg Street and are working to piece together the full sequence of events. Extensive forensic searches and police cordons remain in place as part of the ongoing investigation.
Among those arrested are three men – aged 18, 24, and 24 – held on suspicion of murder. Others, aged between 24 and 53, have been arrested on suspicion of affray and assisting an offender.
Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Dan Bates, of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said: “Our investigation remains in its early stages and we are working tirelessly to understand exactly what happened and why. This is a tragic loss of a young life, and we are supporting Muhammad’s family during what is an incredibly painful time.
We continue to appeal for anyone with information, including mobile phone, CCTV or dashcam footage, to come forward and help us build a clear picture of the circumstances.”
DCI Bates added that police are aware of the concern this incident has caused in the community and reassured residents that additional patrols are in place, alongside support from Bradford District’s Stronger Communities Team.
Community leaders and local organisations have echoed calls for calm and cooperation, urging anyone with information to speak out.
