Prominent international climate activist visits Brent

An Eco Peace delegation visit held recently brought together community leaders, councillors and young activists in a fight against climate change.

The event provided a unique platform for attendees to hear from Yana Abu Taleb, the Director of EcoPeace (Middle East), who gave insights into the groundbreaking work on environmental sustainability in the region. Yana was also presented with an award from Brent for her work on climate action.

Councillor Krupa Sheth, Cabinet Member for Environment, Infrastructure, and Climate Action, said: “Our ambitious target to become carbon neutral by 2030 can only be achieved if we empower residents by bringing local groups together to tackle climate change. It was fascinating to hear from Yana, who is at the forefront of climate action in the middle east – which really puts in to perspective how this is a global issue and it is good to hear how they are dealing with climate change elsewhere.

“Thank you to all the local groups, residents, and officers who made the event what it was.”

The event featured a presentation by Brent’s Climate Team, emphasising the critical role of seldom heard communities and faith communities in advocating for and participating in climate action. The event was co-organised with the Brent Multi Faith Forum who facilitated a discussion around partnership working between Brent’s communities and Eco Peace.

The Eco Peace Delegation Visit at Brent Civic Centre showcased the power of community engagement and collaboration in addressing the pressing issue of climate change. The commitment and dedication of local leaders, community representatives, and young advocates reaffirm the borough\’s commitment to creating a sustainable and environmentally responsible future.
